Discs used are premium-grade DVD-R format (1-16X). Other formats (such as DVD+R or double layer) are optional & may increase price and turnaround time.
Black disc printing is applied thermally to silver or (optionally) white surface media, and is limited to text and graphics. Very durable and waterproof.
Color disc printing is applied thermally (Everest III) to white or (optionally) silver surface media and can include photos. Very durable and waterproof.
Paper sleeves include a flap and clear plastic window. Slim plastic cases include clear soft poly cases or hard “slim-line” jewel-style cases. Movie boxes are full-size black with full clear wraparound sleeve for printed inserts.
Inserts are color laser printed.

	NOTES ON BLACK THERMAL DISC PRINTING DESIGN & ARTWORK

Thermal disc printing If what you want printed on your CD's or DVD's is fairly simple, such as a little text, perhaps a simple logo, and maybe a line here and there, you could simply provide us a sketch (and logo file) and we can lay it out ourselves for printing - avoiding unnecessary graphic design costs.

However, if what you want is complicated or you want more artistic control, please consider (or provide to your graphic designer) the following information for producing the design or "artwork":

(1) Dimensions: The dimensions for designing are 116 mm outer diameter and 40 mm inner diameter (for the non-printable hole area of the disc). For paper outer sleeves, the sleeve window (for anything you want to show through) is 100 mm in diameter.

(2) Colors: Black on shiny silver is standard. Optionally, the discs can be printed in either royal blue or medium green instead of black. Note that only one color (green, blue or black) is printed, and it is printed (unless otherwise specified) on a shiny silver surface. Halftoning (see below) for images or "gray-scale" and large reverses are not possible if blue or green is selected.

(3) Halftone Considerations: Discs will be printed using a thermal printing process that prints pure black at 300 dpi resolution. If any (non-halftoned) photographic images or gray-scale is required, the entire print would be made using a 6x6 "halftone" pattern which reduces effective resolution to 50 dpi. (Avoiding gray-scale or photographic images results in the sharpest printing on the discs.)

(4) Format Indications: Besides what you provide, there will be no other markings on the disc (indicating format, etc). Best practices include indicating on the design whether the disc is a CD, DVD, etc. Also, if it is a video disc, whether it is in US (NTSC) format, European (PAL), or some other format.

(5) Legal Notices: Be sure to remember to include any copyright or trademark notices as appropriate.

(6) Artwork files should be provided to us in IBM/Windows compatible JPG or TIFF format. Please contact us for others if this is not possible.

Below are templates used for DVD artwork. The Black and Color DVD Templates may also be used for CDs, but the case templates are only for DVD cases. You will need a program compatible with .psd files to open them such as Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Paintshop Pro.
