Tape Repair

Audio/Video Tape Repair

If your irreplaceable home video or audio tape is broken, Access Video can often repair the physical damage. We can replace broken outer shells when the tape itself is undamaged. We can reattach tape/leaders to the tape hub if it has snapped off. We can also sometimes splice damaged or broken tape to allow transfer of the undamaged portion to a new tape or disc.

* Splice repairs are considered temporary and tapes with splices should NOT be played through standard tape playing equipment. Doing so can result in damage to the tape and player, for which Access Video will NOT be responsible. We strongly recommend that customers have us make a copy of the spliced tape rather than use it. Please see our duplication section for copy pricing, or transfer section if copying to another type of media (e.g., VHS to DVD).

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  1. All tape repair procedures must be paid in advance.
  2. There is NO GUARANTEE that after repair the tape will contain any playable video.
  3. Repair costs will not be refunded unless we are unable to perform the service (splice or shell replacement) as ordered.
  4. We will not copy nor perform splice repairs to commercially produced (copyrighted) materials.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. Why do you require tape repairs to be paid in advance?
A.
In case the tape turns out to be blank, in need of more extensive restoration, or is not the tape that a customer thought it was. Paying in advance avoids the need to make a special trip to pay and retrieve a tape the customer may no longer want.

Q. Why is there no guarantee that the tape will contain playable video after repair?
A.
While most tapes are useable (or transferable) after repair, there is always a risk that a tape is simply blank (never recorded) or has more than one problem. It may be physically broken, which we can fix, but it may also have aged or deteriorated to the point that, even after physical repair, the tape will not play properly. Such tapes can sometimes be restored at companies that specialize in restoring old/deteriorated tapes, but restoration is a much more extensive (and expensive) process than a simple splice repair or shell repair. Access Video does not refund the price of completed repairs even if it is later determined that the tape is blank or has other problems. Please take this risk into account before paying for non-refundable repair work.
